Runway
Runway compares how long the funds you choose to treat as available could cover two spending figures you define: your current monthly spending, and your essential monthly spending.
The model assumes no new income arrives during the period. It describes coverage capacity under the figures you enter. It does not describe safety, preparedness, or what your figures should be.
The three figures this calculator uses
These three figures are the only values the calculation will ever use. Enter them all in the same currency and the same unit.
The total amount you choose to treat as available to spend over the period. You decide what belongs in this figure.
Not sure what to include?
Availability is not the same as ownership. Something you own may still be hard to reach quickly, restricted, or worth an uncertain amount when you need it.
Funds already committed to something else, and money you would have to borrow, behave differently from funds you can simply draw on.
Ovelda does not decide which resources belong in this figure. The figure is yours.
What you spend in a typical month at present, expressed as a single monthly figure.
The monthly figure you would spend if you kept only what you consider essential. You define the boundary.
What counts as essential?
This is the amount you choose to treat as necessary if new income stopped.
People classify the same expense differently, and the same person may classify it differently at different times.
Ovelda sets no minimum and does not decide what is essential for you.
Coverage duration
Both results use the same Available funds against each of the two spending figures you entered.
At current spending
No result
No result follows until an Available funds amount of zero or more is entered.
At essential spending
No result
No result follows until an Available funds amount of zero or more is entered.
Reading the two results
Nothing to read yet. The two figures appear once the entries above produce results.
What the model does
- No new income is modelled during the period.
- Available funds is a figure you define, not one we infer.
- Both spending figures are yours; nothing is estimated for you.
- The calculation is simple coverage: available funds measured against a monthly spending figure.
- Investment returns, inflation and tax are not modelled.
- All three figures must be entered in the same currency and the same unit.
